It already knows your trade

Not a generic script with your name dropped in. It speaks the language.

flash

Pre-drawn designs, usually on the wall or the artist's sheets. Fast to book, often walk-in, cheaper than custom.

custom

Drawn for that client from their idea and references. Needs a consultation and drawing time before the appointment.

deposit

Paid to hold the appointment and cover drawing time. Typically non-refundable and comes off the final price. No deposit means no booking.

shop minimum

The lowest charge for any tattoo, however small. Covers setup, sterile supplies and the artist's time.

hourly vs piece rate

Large work is often billed by the hour or by the session; small pieces are quoted as a flat amount. Either way the artist sets it, not the front desk.

session

One sitting. Sleeves and large pieces take several sessions weeks apart so the skin can heal between.

placement

Where on the body. Changes the price, the pain, how the design has to be shaped, and whether the artist will do it at all.

linework and shading

The outline versus the fill. Some artists specialise in one; fine line means very thin single-needle lines.

Price questions
"How much for a forearm piece?" Never a number. Size, placement, detail and artist decide it, so it is a consultation.

Walk-in availability today
Small pieces and flash. They are calling the next shop if you do not pick up.

Aftercare and healing questions
Peeling, itching and redness are normal. Heat, pus and fever are not — those go to a doctor, never diagnosed on the phone.
10%
Reschedule or cancel
Deposit policy applies. Notice window matters because an artist's day is booked in blocks.

Touch-ups and cover-ups
Touch-ups are usually a policy question. Cover-ups always need the artist to see the existing work.
